Children's Clothing and Accessories

After having children, I began to make clothing, toys, and accessories. I went from working full time and designing wedding gowns to being a full time mom. I had creative energy and needed an outlet during which I could find a meditative calm and purpose.

I began by creating things for my son's room. Here are some of the things I used to decorate:

A little organic onsie to come home in. Photo by Anne Simone
I quilted, painted and embroidered this map for his room before my son was born. I also made the lion's head out of a pillow and fabric strips when he was a baby. He and I made the quilted blanket together when he was about 5. He was great on the sewing machine!

For the nursery, I made curtains, covered a storage ottoman to match, made a cotton rope basket for the shelf, made a changing table cushion out of natural latex and organic cotton and made little stuffed birds to perch on a branch above.

In this photo you can see more things I made as I was nesting in preparation for his arrival: an organic blanket with the landscape scene on the floor, diaper bag with lots of pockets, sheep clock, hoodie towels with ears and dino spikes, an alphabet out of fabric scraps

This is a mobil made of felted wool hung, and the metal ring is covered in crocheted cotton yarn. I used curtains from my childhood room to hang from it and around the outside of the crib until he could roll. Let's be honest... he didn't spend much time in here, but slept with me most of the time. :)

High School AP Art - The Dress

My AP art project was a wedding dress made of all my papers I had saved in my efforts to be what everyone expected. It was an adolescent commentary on American ideals, expectations, culture and an unrealistic striving for "perfection". It was made to fit "perfect" body measurements of 36" x 24" x 36".
